MINUTES - D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by Quaker City Yacht Club

July 1, 2008

 

OPENING: Meeting called to order @ 8:20pm. Moment of silence for FSA member Bob Ritchie. Juice introduced Quaker City Commodore, Joe O’Hara who apologized for the late dinner and introduced the attending officers and welcomed the DRYL.

 

Guest: Lisa Shiller who is the chairperson for the Burlington 15th Annual Festival of Lights and Decorated Boat parade which will be held on Saturday, August 16th. She explained the changes that will occur at the boat parade this year and some of the additional events that will coincide on shore. Registration forms were made available for those that wish to participate in the lighted boat parade. Registration is free and prizes will be awarded. Forms are also available on the Burlington City website.

OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President: Thanks for all the cards and e-mails in memory of Mary’s mom. Juice spoke about the Senate bill 2766 and about a letter he received from Bill Ulrich, Commodore Bordentown YC, concerning the possibility of making club events accessible to military personnel stationed at McGuire Air Force base before they ship out. McGuire will handle the transportation. The new DRYL patches are available for $6 and hats with a patch will be available and will cost approximately $11.

3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski – no report.

Secretary: Rick Patton – no report.


Audit & Budget: Bill Branchide – no report.

Banquet: Mary Jusino – no report.

Cruise: Bob Grace – Still have a couple of openings. Applications are available. Itinerary reviewed.

Donations – no requests.

Fleet Surgeon: Harry Borgersen – no report.

Pageant: Toni Nespola – Introduced Queen and lots of attending princesses and past Queen, Jenna Andrusco. All forms must be turned in tonight. All buttons, shirts, docking information will be distributed at the August 5th meeting. Theme will be Philadelphia Sports Team Pride. Decorate your boats. Raffle tickets – sell, sell, and sell as they defray the cost of the pageant. Toni reviewed pageant day itinerary.

Picnic: Joe Gricco – September 6th at Riverside YC. Tickets will be limited to 500 adults and 100 children. All tickets will be advance purchase only; no tickets will be sold at the door. Docking reservations must be in by August meeting and given directly to Joe Gricco at the meeting. Insurance cards must be presented for docking.

Public Affairs: Bill Garwood – Discussed articles about dredging in the Delaware River. Budget still has not been approved. Also spoke about ongoing discussions concerning waterfront development in Philadelphia from Oregon Avenue to Allegheny Avenue.

Regatta: Fred Saunders – Annual Poker Run on July 26th. Three starting points will be Bristol YC, West End YC and Farragut Sportsman’s Association. Bristol will be serving a hardy breakfast starting at 9am. Starting times will be from 9am – 12pm and all boats must be back at Farragut by 3pm. Forms available on website or at starting points. Will need boat insurance information on forms. Picnic lunch at Farragut at the conclusion of the Poker Run.

Safe Boating: Frank Gilbert – Frank handed out articles about how to safely exit your boat and understand your drift situation before you exit as well as an article about understanding your boat insurance policy.

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – no report.

Webmaster: Paul Jusino/Ben Lewitt – If any club events are not on website, call or e-mail Juice and he will get them on the activity list.

Yearbook: Denise Leo – $220 was turned in – approximately $1500 due in uncollected ads. Profit should be around $5000 when all monies are collected. Extra books are available. Some changes in store for next year.

Boater Voter: Joe Campbell – Discussed state of NJ possible mandate on insurance and the ruling of what should be covered. Anything that floats will be considered a boat and will require insurance.

CBYCA: Bob Williams – Next meeting will be in August.

National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – working on gray water issues. Letter writing efforts have been successful. Now have 30+ senators on board.

NJ Legislation: John Honer – no report.

Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Bill Garwood – Next meeting will be in September at Anchor YC. Schedule in on website. Will be sending invoices to individual clubs for PBA dues.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

All DRYL insurance coverage sheets are in and have been distributed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

Toni received $3200 for pageant

Secretary received $50.97 for supplies

Yearbook received $7171.52 for printer

Knight insurance was given $993 for the insurance policy

DRYL Committee to be formed to give input into the waterfront development

 

FINANCIAL REPORTS

Checkbook opening balance $18,774.55. Mike Kovacs reported income of $9,329 while Phyllis Blackeby reported disbursements of $11,415.49 resulting in a checkbook closing balance of $16,688.06. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills.
